Namibia
SLEEPING UNDER THE STARS
Namibia
Endless deserts, clear skies and a population density that ranks lowest in the world gives visitors to Namibia a sense of true wilderness and exploration. While seemingly isolated, Namibia is extremely tourist-friendly and is often praised as the best country for travelers looking for their first African adventure. This beautiful country is painted with overlapping sand dunes and, although it borders the great Atlantic Ocean, Namibia receives the least rainfall of any sub-Saharan African country. This lack of precipitation creates some of the world’s most unique, windswept coasts and habitats, eager to be explored. From national parks and beaches, to shipwrecks and even a ghost town, Namibia is the perfect African destination for your bucket list.
Safari Experiences
Sossusvlei Desert
-
Discovering the iconic Sossusvlei Desert is a once in a lifetime experience. This area is vast, open and seemingly endless. The rolling dunes can often blend into one, especially after a long day in the heat! This dramatic arid landscape is best explored at dusk and dawn, while taking the heat of the day to relax in your lodge. A safari of a different kind, visiting Sossusvlei is a sure way to tap into your nomadic heart and really go off the grid.
Skeleton Coast
-
With towering sand dunes and ancient shipwrecks, the Skeleton Coast feels like somewhat of a mirage. But the natural beauty the desert coast possesses is entirely real. Namibia’s Skeleton Coast is an isolated oasis, perfect for travelers who are exploring Namibia in its entirety. The long journey to Namibia’s baron coast is all part of the magic of this destination, so prepare for quite the adventure!
The harsh environment of the Skeleton Coast makes for an experience unlike anywhere else in Africa. The landscapes are dramatic and yet somehow serene. All the while lions and hyenas meander the shoreline, looking for their evening meal.
Etosha National Park
-
Etosha National Park is one of the most popular destinations in Namibia and once you arrive, it isn’t hard to see why! There are a variety of reasons why Etosha has become a haven for wildlife, thanks to its abundance of waterholes. This is a great opportunity to silently observe wildlife and see them in their natural habitat.
The main attraction in Etosha National Park is however not necessarily the wildlife, but in fact the Etosha salt pan. The salt pan is so large that you can see it from space! It is believed to have been formed over 100 million years ago and is 130km in length.
Desert, desert, and more desert – this country is so picturesque it will take your breath away.
“The region is stark and hostile, but in the early morning and late afternoon light, when the basalt rocks turn to the color of rust, and the distant mountains to soft shades of purple and blue, it can also be breathtakingly beautiful.”: Namibia
